Plantasia
Plantasia was born from a thesis exploration into how the interactions of sound, music, and memory can build strong connections between humans and nature. What does it look like to access the healing and spiritual effects of nature when it becomes inaccessible? Many of us already “bring in the outdoors” in simple ways by owning houseplants or spending time in sunny spaces. With intention, these actions can be powerful tools. Plantasia is based on the idea of green bathing, transforming the principles of shinrin-yoku (forest bathing) into a practice available to anyone. It asks you to consider the irony of an interaction that requests you to enter a man-made, artificial space to experience a break from a man-made and artificial setting. More importantly, it invites you to reflect on stillness, beauty, and coexistence by providing a tiny space of reverent dedication in the midst of a busy concrete building.
